What is SATS ?

It is an animal training system of  "Operant Communication"

Syn Alia Training Systems (SATS) is an integrated training system, with Bridge and Target, Vocabulary, Perception Modification, Cycles, and more. People can communicate with animals with startling ease and without physical force or constraint.  Best of all, SATS continues to evolve, empowering people with better and faster techniques for realizing their animal goals.

Bridges
This training is unique because of its use of an intermediate bridge which signals the subject that s/he is on the right track but has not completed the trial yet (like the clue "getting warmer").  This has profound results!  We can support the animal in every learning exercise- convert failed trials to successes - and expand correct behavior in the face of challenges.  The intermediate bridge is followed by the terminal bridge, signaling successful completion of the behavior.

Targets
Teaching an animal to focus on a target helps it learn in a distraction-rich environment.  In Bridge and Target training, the targeting is not related directly to food, but to being bridged.  An animal that is focused on food is not necessarily open to learning.  Animals learn to focus on targets as "markers" for their correct actions, rather than as places where food will appear.  Targeting shows an animal exactly how to be successful.  Trial and error is eliminated.  Using a series of targets, we can define any motion or behavior.  Targets can be used to describe even very specific, very complex behaviors, for virtually errorless learning.

What you should know about ...

Bringing animals
It is not necessary to bring an animal in order to benefit from the workshop.  Participants without animals will team up to practice with other students.   As space is limited to approximately 1 animal for every 3 participants, you must contact the workshop organizer for approval to bring an animal.  Approval is granted on a first-come-first-served basis.  Actual work with each animal occurs typically in one or more 5-10 minute sessions, as each animal needs mental breaks ("soak time") to absorb new information.

1. Bringing dogs: No dogs without specific prior approval.  Please download the Request To Bring A Dog form, and send the completed form directly to kc@synalia.com .   Potential problems of aggression or reactivity must be discussed with Kayce prior to bringing the dog to the seminar.  Please contact Kayce Cover at 757.588.5967 or 757.214.2836, or email kc@synalia.com.

2. Bringing horses: You must include with your registration PROOF OF NEGATIVE COGGINS dated AFTER June 14, 2007. Limited stabling is available at $25 per night on a first-come-first-served basis. You must also sign and return the attached Release Waiver for Cardinal Points Farm with this registration.

3.
Owners are responsible for safe handling of animals at all times.  Do not allow your animal to come up to another animal.  Dangerous animals, or animals that cannot be safely handled by owners, are not permitted.  Please bring safe equipment to secure your animal during the animal's "soak time", and while you attend the lecture and indoor portions of this workshop.

4. Owners are responsible for providing their animals' crates, treats, water, feed, hay, shade, etc., AND any necessary safety equipment (e.g. muzzles, stud-chains).  Stall bedding for horses will be provided.

For your own and others' safety all dogs must be leashed/crated, and all horses controlled appropriately, at all times
